immune tonic recipe

.

It’s that fun time of year where everyone around is getting the cold and flu! Your immune system is our main defence system and includes the innate or non-specific immunity,  and the acquired or adaptive immunity which is developed after exposing and specifically defending against various antigens.

You might be wondering why you are getting sick more often, and not recovering as quickly you have in the past. Our immune system health and resiliency depends on several different factors.

.

UNDERLYING LIFESTYLE CAUSES OF A WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEM:

  • Chronic stress – corticosteroid can suppress the effectiveness of the immune system (e.g. lowers the number of lymphocytes) 1
  • Food allergens (wheat, dairy, corn) and overly processed foods – which contain high amounts of sugar, salt, and unhealthy fat, as well as artificial sweeteners, gluten, and genetically modified foods. Diets high in processed and potentially allergenic foods may all lead to increased inflammation, reduced control of infection, increased rates of cancer, and increased risk for allergic and auto-inflammatory disease. 2
  • Refined sugar  – It actually required your nutrients to metabolize processed sugar, and it’s an immune suppressor. As little as 3.5 ounces can suppress your immune system up to 50 percent.
  • Nutrient deficiencies (A, E, D, C, Zinc, Selenium, Iron)
  • Toxins (food, environment, beauty products, alcohol) – impairs the functions of both T cells and B cells.3
  • Compramised Digestion – as 70-80% of the immune system is within the digestive system
  • Overuse of Antibiotics (not meant for viruses)

.

Today I want to share a beautiful fall tonic to support the immune system and ward off the cold and flu sysmptoms!
