Which Foods to Eat to Increase Your Mojo and Feel Sexy from the Inside Out

All those roses, bon-bons, and wining and dining won’t really make an impact if you are one of the 40% of men and women suffering from a low libido. With all the amazing benefits of sex, including lowered blood pressure, increased immunity, and less headaches, not the mention the emotional benefits of deeper connection and contentment, we should make having sex an integral part of our health plan.

So what’s causing us to not want to be in the health enhancing euphoric state? Aside from emotional reasons, the foods we eat can either help to boost our libido or zap our mojo!

There are, of course, multitude of underlying causes of low sex drive. These could be related to hormonal imbalance, toxic overload or high stress levels, just to name a few.

Our diet and lifestyle choices play a big part. We want to steer clear of food that zap our energy, like processed foods that rob our bodies of sexy vitamins and minerals like zinc and B vitamins that support a healthy sex drive and help manage our stress levels. These would include processed and artificial sugars and packaged foods loaded with chemicals. We also want to stay away from those unhealthy refined oils, like vegetable, soy, canola oils, because we want our heart pumping blood to those sexy organs.

What can we do right now to give ourselves a natural libido boost?

Get a little nutty:

Walnuts, for example, are filled with healthy essential fatty acids like omega 3, which are necessary for a healthy heart. A healthy heart has the ability to pump our blood into all the right places. L-arginine, another essential amino acid, is found abundantly in nuts and seeds, helping to increase circulation to sex organs, leading to better response to stimulation. Nuts and seeds also contain tyrosine and phenylalanine, essential amino acids used by the body to build dopamine. Dopamine is one of the neurotransmitters responsible for the ability to experience feelings of pleasure and arousal. These amino acids can also be found in almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.

Sexy adaptogenic herbs:

Two of the best herbs used traditionally for centuries to boost libido are maca root and ashwagandha. Maca root is a Peruvian adaptogenic herb that helps to restore balance in the whole body. Maca is not only known for its libido boosting properties, but it also helps the body adapt to stress and increase your energy and stamina, all essential for getting you the mood!

Ashwagandha is another adaptogenic herb that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It is used to help increase vitality, energy, endurance and stamina, reduce stress, promote longevity, and strengthen the immune system. The literal translation of ashwagandha is “that which gives the vitality and sexual energy of a horse”. Holy cow, right? You can find these herbs at the health food store in capsule or powder form, which you can use in your smoothies or truffles! (Recipe below)

Energizing B vitamin rich foods:

What’s stopping you from enjoying an intimate connection with your partner? Could fatigue and stress be part of the problem? B vitamins to the rescue! B vitamins are used in the body to generate energy on a cellular level and to combat stress. Avocados top my list of health enhancing foods because they have ample amounts of B vitamins, healthy fats to enhance cardiovascular function and boost your mood, and vitamin E to enhance immune function and create beautiful healthy soft skin.  Asparagus contains plenty of folic acid. This B vitamin raises histamine production, which is vital for reaching orgasm in both sexes. Other sources of B vitamins include greens and bell peppers, best eaten raw as B vitamin levels diminish with cooking.

Spice it up:

Bringing the heat with some cayenne pepper! They contain capsaicin, which helps to stimulate blood flow to your sex organs and encourages a release of feel good endorphins! Cayenne pepper also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to combat migraine headaches and aid in digestion.

These little treats are sexy for many reasons: they are quick to make, so you spend more of your time and energy with your lover, they contain the essential amino acids to increase pleasure and build healthy happy hormones, heart healthy fats, and stress busting magnesium, and energizing B vitamins!

2 Tbsp coconut oil

3 Tbsp raw cacao powder (I used Giddy Yoyo brand)

1 ripe avocado

1 tsp pure vanilla powder (or 1.5 tsp pure vanilla extract)

¼ tsp ashwaghanda powder (optional)

2-3 packages stevia leaf powder (can substitute raw honey or liquid stevia to taste)

Pinch cayenne pepper

Pinch sea salt

How to make:

  1. In an oven safe dish melt coconut oil (roughly 2 minutes in a 400F oven)
  2. Scoop avocado from the shell into a small blender or food processor. Add melted coconut oil and the rest of the ingredients. Test with smaller amounts of sweetener first, then add more if needed. Blend until smooth.
  3. Line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper. Using a melon scooper or a soup spoon, make little balls and place on the baking sheet.
  4. Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes until the truffles are slightly hardened. Put 1-2 Tbsp of raw cacao powder on the parchment paper and roll the truffles in the powder until fully covered. If you want a pretty round shape, roll between your palms.
  5. Place back into the fridge to harden for another 30 minutes. Enjoy and share with someone you love!

Important – keep in the refrigerator and eat within 2 days.
